Nkem Owoh is a Nigerian Veteran Actor and Comedian born on February 7, 1958. His performance in the Nigerian movie “Stronger than Pain” earned him the African Movie Academy Award for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” in 2008.

Owoh was arrested in 2007 after a seven-month police investigation in The Netherlands known as “Operation Apollo” took place in the Bijlmermeer neighborhood of the Amsterdam Zuidoost borough. Owoh was arrested while performing a musical show when the police conducted a raid at the event and detained 111 people on suspicion of lottery fraud and immigration violations. Owoh was later released. Owoh was abducted in eastern Nigeria in November 2009. His captors wanted a ransom of 15 million naira. Owoh was freed after his family paid a 1.4 million naira ransom.

Nkem Owoh has starred in a variety of Nollywood movies alongside other Veteran Actors including Pete Edochie, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Patience Ozokwor and Gloria Young.
In 1987, Owoh was featured in the movie Things Fall Apart alongside Pete Edochie who was the lead actor in the movie. The storyline was adopted from Chinua Achebe’s novel of the same title. The movie helped him advance in his acting career as it was his first significant break.

Nkem Owoh also played Odinaka in the Nollywood movie Rattlesnake alongside Francis Duru in 1995 after featuring in the movie Circle of Doom 2 in 1993. His performance of the song “I Go Chop Your Dollar,” which was about advance fee fraud, is also well recognized. The song was featured in the movie The Master where Owoh played the role of a scammer. The song was outlawed by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
