Starr started writing songs with her brother when she was just 10 years old and sang in a high school choir. She attended Les Cours Sonou University and graduated with a BA in political science and international relations. She experienced a lot of bullying from her peers during her time in college due to her age and appearance. Ayra Starr started her modeling at the age of 16 in Cotonou, Benin where she was born with Quove Model Management before deciding to focus on music.
